The “Five Loosening Exercises” developed by Professor Cheng Man Ching and further popularized by his student Huang Sheng Shyan are a foundational set of preparatory movements for Cheng Man Ching’s Tai Chi. These exercises are distinct from generic warm-ups and are specifically designed to cultivate relaxation, body awareness, and the principles of Tai Chi movement.

The exercises can be reduced from 10 minutes to 5 minutes or whatever is felt to be beneficial. They can be used as a warm up or a standalone set of exercises.
Notes:
- Move slowly and gently, focusing on relaxation and awareness.
- Breathing should be natural and unforced.
- These exercises are sometimes taught with variations, but the underlying principles remain the same: relaxation (song), looseness, and whole-body integration.
