With Corona Virus restrictions lifting across the UK I decided to take advantage of the new freedom. Since late summer 2021 I have regularly visited the Rubery Tai Chi club in Birmingham to enhance my skills further and deepen my knowledge of the Cheng Man Ching Yang style of Tai Chi.
The Rubery class instructor is Nigel Ryan who has been a Tai Chi instructor since 2006 with the Kai Ming Association for Taijiquan (a different spelling for Tai Chi).
The club has a good mix of beginners and advanced students and two classes are available, one for beginners and one for advanced. The beginners class focus on body movement and the 37 move form in the Cheng Man Ching style.
The advanced class focuses on the finer details of the form, pushing hands, martial art applications and sword practice.
The class has a nice relaxed atmosphere and is held in a very large church hall with lots of natural light.
March 2025 – I have been contacted by Mark Peters, the Head of the Kai Ming Association. He has informed me that the Rubery Class has now moved to West Heath in Birmingham. Nigel Ryan has moved to the South Coast and the class is run by Bob and Karl.
