The traditional Yang Family Tai Chi Qigong set was taught to me in 2025 by Mark Peters of Kia Ming Association for Tai Chi Chuan. He has documented the origin of this set as follows:
The History of Yang Family Tai Chi Qigong
Tai Chi Qigong allows the sinews and bones to be stretched and expanded, causing the blood and chi to unite, increasing the internal energy.
This system of qigong has been passed down through the Yang family generations and was taught to Mark & Jenny Peters by Master Liang He Ching of Malaysia. Master Liang (1938 – 2007) studied in depth with Yang Ching Feng, who learnt it from his teacher Liu Jian Chuan. Liu Jian Chuan had trained directly with Yang Cheng Fu.

The illustrations used were taken from Chen Yen-Lin’s book (1932). He was a senior student of Yang Cheng Fu and copied the original Yang family transcripts in 1929-30 which infuriated the Yang Family who soon after published their own smaller book. This story is well documented.
When performing deep breathing to produce chi, you must aim to do it as naturally as possible. Whether inhaling or exhaling, it must be performed slowly and gradually. Each breath should be taken smoothly and without restraint; it should not be repressed by being too regulatory which produces negative circulation.
As in most Tai Chi practice, stay calm, relaxed, do not overstretch, keep your joints soft and breathing soft, consistent and natural.
